The Danson and Serah Kiundi Foundation

Named in honour of two people who spent their lives building community in rural Kenya, this Foundation organises online auctions and directs every shilling raised to three active programmes in Makueni County and across Kenya.

The Danson and Serah Kiundi Foundation

Danson Kiundi Yambu was born in Ukia, in the then Masaku Colonial District. He and his wife Serah Mbuve Kiundi spent their lives building the kind of community infrastructure that rural Kenya needed most: a school, a church, and a culture of education, faith, and modern medicine in a region where advocating for all three required genuine commitment.

Danson Kiundi Yambu was born as the drums of the first World War reverberated across the known world. His legacy now funds the education of the generation born a century later.

Danson was introduced to faith and literacy at Kijabe Africa Inland Mission, where he became a lay preacher and a promoter of education. He married Mbuve Mukoma, who converted to Christianity and was baptised Serah. Together they established a shop at Mwanyani market before relocating to Emali town.

Together with fellow Christians, they championed the establishment of Kisaani AIC church and Nduundune Primary School. The school that features in the Foundation's nutrition programme today is the same one they helped bring into existence. The legacy is not symbolic. It is operational.

Harambee

The Foundation's auction mechanism is, in its structure, harambee: communal pulling-together toward a shared outcome. People bid, the highest bidder wins a product, and the collective act of bidding funds the community's programmes. No bid is wasted. Every participant contributes whether or not they take the product home. This is not charity in the transactional sense. It is organised collective participation.

The Danson and Serah Kiundi Foundation organises online auctions directing all proceeds to three active programmes: daily school meals at Nduundune Primary School, scholarships for students from Nzaui who earn admission to a provincial secondary school or higher, and direct support for cancer warriors across Kenya.

Three programmes. One mechanism.

Every online auction is linked to one of three active programmes. Here is what each one does and who it serves.

Students receiving scholarship support

Scholarships

Students from Nzaui Subcounty, Makueni County, who earn admission to a provincial secondary school or higher receive scholarship support to meet the cost of attendance. One scholarship opens a door that would otherwise close.

Children at Nduundune Primary School

Nduundune School Meals

Every child at Nduundune Primary School receives a nutritious meal on every school day. Hunger is the most commonly cited reason pupils miss class in this area. One meal a day changes attendance, attention, and outcomes.

Active programme
Cancer awareness and warrior support

Cancer Warrior Support

Direct support and advocacy for cancer warriors and their families across Kenya. One of the Foundation's trustees is a cancer warrior. This programme exists because of lived experience, and that is what makes it credible.

Richard Kioko Kiundi, Founding Trustee

Richard Kioko Kiundi

Founding Trustee

Richard Kioko Kiundi is the son of Danson Kiundi Yambu and Serah Mbuve Kiundi. He established the Foundation in 2023 to carry forward the legacy that his parents built across decades in Makueni County: education, community, and faith in practice, not just in aspiration.

Richard is a cancer warrior. The cancer support programme exists because of his own battle with the disease and his conviction that no person in Kenya should face cancer without community. It is the most personally invested of the Foundation's three programmes. It reflects lived experience, not policy.

Two ways to participate

Both paths fund the same three programmes.

Participate in the online auction and win an everyday product at a fraction of its retail price, or give directly through M-changa. Every shilling goes to the Foundation's work in Makueni County and across Kenya.
